Senegalese Defender Kalidou Koulibaly is ready to exchange Napoli's Sky Blue Jersey for Chelsea's Royal Blue Jersey this summer. According To Nizaar Kinsella, Koulibaly was in London on Wednesday to undergo his medicals before he'll sign a 4-year contract with the West London club.

Kalidou Koulibaly has been loyal to shirt number 26 since he transfer to Naples in 2014 from Genk. This is why there's a lot of interests in the shirt number that Kalidou Koulibaly could get at Chelsea.

In the last 9 years, despite being a top rated Defender and one of the best Players in Napoli, Kalidou Koulibaly has stick with shirt number 26. He could have opted to wear any shirt number during his time at Napoli but he decided to remain in the shirt number 26.

At Chelsea, shirt number 26 hasn't been officially retired but no Player has wear it in more than 5 years. Chelsea Legendary Captain John Terry created a great legacy in the shirt number becoming Fans' favourite and the most successful Captain in the history of the West London Club.

It's obvious why no Player has shown interest in the jersey number since John Terry left because such Player will be under a lot of pressure not to soil John Terry's legacy. Also, there are some speculations regarding the status of the shirt number, whether Chelsea has retired it or not.

The imminent transfer of Kalidou Koulibaly will help confirm that. Chelsea haven't signed any World class Defender that's capable of defending John Terry's legacy by wearing the shirt number 26 since the Former Chelsea Captain left in 2017. Kalidou Koulibaly is a perfect fit for the shirt number, and if he doesn't get it, we can confirm that the number has been retired.
