Reactions As Supermarket Writes Tough Rules for Its Customers in Eldoret

The famous Tuskys Supermarkets marked its end of an error on January 2021 when it closed its last store in Nakuru town. Having been started by Joram Kamau in 1985, the chain of stores experienced various hurdles until it closed its remaining one in Nakuru's CBD. Other major towns in Kenya had closed down. This was attributed to mismanagement and other issues.

Eldoret's Eldo Center Mall which housed Tuskys has however received a new tenant called Quickmart Supermarket. This new outlet has placed a tough warning at the entrance of the mall. According to the conspicuous notice, the vehicles are parked at owners' risk and any vehicle parked more than one hour at the parking will be clamped and the owner will have to pay Ksh 1000 fine.

This has sparked uproar from a section of online Kenyans who said that the rules are punitive. They added that the time is not enough since one can go there shopping and other activities. Quickmart Supermarket was started by the late John Kinuthia in Nakuru but it is now managed by his son Duncan Kinuthia. Since its inception, it has continued to expand into several towns in Kenya and takes the biggest share of the market after Naivas.
