Series of reports with regards to several forms of sexual violence in Nigeria have generated concerns of insecurity from the government, private organisations and the society at large.
In recent reports, the Human Rights Agency Network (HRAN), a Non-Governmental Organisation has initiated a website, www.reportrasa.org, where victims of any form of sexual assault can confidentially report the abuse without any fear of being victimized and also get immediate response and help.
According to reports, most victims of sexual harassments are scared of reporting their unfortunate ordeal for fear of victimization/stigmatization, they will rather prefer to keep it within themselves while they are abused over and over again.
HRAN's Coordinator, Chisom Ihekwaba, in a statement said that “The reporting platform also allows survivors and complainants gain access to medical, legal, and psychological support from our team of experts."
Ihekwaba also mentioned that the rapid increase in rape cases in recent times is alarming, and that the introduction of this website is necessary and timely
Several reports of the government's (both federal and state) intervention, by advocating harsh penalties for rapists surfaced. However this step should go a long way to help victims regain confidence and speak out in order to bring perpetrators of such crimes to justice
