Ilkay Gundogan Fumes Over Defeat As Joachim Low Slams Timo Werner Disastrous Miss

Germany saw their years record squashed by North Macedonia after Timo Werner failed to push the Germans into lead

Gundogan pulled an earlier lead from the Macedonians back from the penalty spot but the side was unfortunate when Timo Werner failed to kick the ball into the open post.

North Macedonia saw an opportunity into the 85th minute and banked on it to materialize a late lead, stopping Germany’s 20-year-old record.

Germany didn’t lose any Qualifiers match since 2001 until last night with Gundogan fuming that such incidents shouldn’t be allowed to happen.

“We cannot allow that to happen,” Gundogan told German national team’s official website.

“North Macedonia were more or less in our box twice and we made it easy for them. We tried to work chances, but we only managed to score once. The way we conceded both goals was poor.”

The team coach also added voice in disappointment saying; “We’re thoroughly disappointed. We simply looked too tired today. There wasn’t an energy about our play and we made too many mistakes going forward.

“When we moved the ball around quickly, we looked dangerous. Our opponents sat deep and we couldn’t find a way to break them down. All in all, it was disappointing.”

When asked about Werner’s miss, Low added; “He must put that ball away, no question at all.

“He has shown here he can score goals, but he doesn’t hit the ball right with his left foot, if he makes a clean contact with the ball it’s a goal.’

Germany now sit third on the group and at par points with North Macedonia who look determined for a qualification.
