Brazilian duo Alisson and Fabinho will miss Liverpool's Premier League game this weekend

Jurgen Klopp has stated that Alisson and Fabinho will miss Liverpool's Premier League match against Watford this weekend owing to problems with coronavirus limitations.

The pair have been in action for their country in South America for World Cup qualification over the last two weeks, and instead of returning to England, they will fly straight to Spain, where Liverpool will face Atletico Madrid in a Champions League group-stage match next week.

Liverpool may send Fabinho and Alisson directly to Madrid rather than making them fly into the UK, as Fabinho intimated, and Klopp confirmed at his news conference on Friday.

What's been said so far?

When asked if the players will go directly to Madrid, Klopp replied: "They have no choice. Because Colombia was their last game in a red-list country. It'll be ten days next Thursday at midnight. These are the rules. They could have flown into England, but that would have meant they would have to isolate from their families.

What is causing this?

During the international break, Alisson and Fabinho were part of the Brazil team that played a 2022 World Cup qualifier away to Colombia, which is on the United Kingdom's red list for coronavirus travel restrictions. This means that anyone who has visited these countries must self-isolate for ten days after returning to the UK.

Alisson and Fabinho can avoid these restrictions by traveling to Spain, which is not on the red list, due to the amount of time that has gone since they were in Colombia - but this comes at the cost of not being available to face Watford.

There's also the issue of fitness: Brazil's most recent qualifier, a 4-1 win over Uruguay, began at 1.30 a.m. UK time on Friday, less than 36 hours before Liverpool's match against Watford on Saturday lunchtime.

When are they going to come back?

Klopp will be without two vital players for a Premier League encounter, but both men should be available for the match against Atletico Madrid, as well as the match against Manchester United next weekend.

Adrian could fill in for Alisson in goal, as he did at the start of the 2020-21 season when the Reds' number one was one of numerous players sidelined due to injury, or Klopp could call up young Irish goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, who has shined in cup games.

Meanwhile, James Milner or Naby Keita might replace Fabinho, who has started five of Liverpool's seven Premier League games this season.
