From the 2022/23 season onwards, the Confederation of African Football (Caf) has decided that teams without a women's squad will be unable to compete in future continental club championships. This implies that Premier Soccer League (PSL) clubs without women's teams who want to compete in future Caf Champions League and Confederation Cup competitions will have to wait until the end of the current 2021/22 season to do so. Female teams are lacking in the professional ranks, with Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United, among others, scrambling to build them.

During his time in power, Patrice Motsepe promised to improve African women's football. "We want women's football to be greatly expanding, progressing, and prospering during my leadership," Patrice Motsepe said. This is also an advantage to the Sundowns women's team because they have experience. If all PSL clubs created female squads, then Sundowns would reign on top as always.

Are we falling into Sundowns' trap?
