Few hours ago, a tanker loaded with diesel exploded on the Otedola bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway forcing motorist turn back their vehicles with speed and pedestrians running for their lives.
From what I gathered, the explosion occurred around 5pm, with flames and smoke all over the area.
The tanker driver was said to be driving towards Berger on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway when one of its tyres caught fire on the Otedola bridge. According to reports, a family of six escaped death as a result of the tanker explosion.
The Federal Road Safety Sector Commander In the state, Olusegun Ogungbemide, who confirmed the incident, in his own statement, said that diesel tanker explosion was caused after it rolled back and collided with a truck carrying goods and a salon car.
“About 11 passengers were involved in the crash with various degrees of injury, but no death was recorded,” he said.
He went further to say that the rescue teams of Federal Road Service Corps, Lagos Fire Service and Lagos State Emergency Management Agency were quickly mobilized to the scene for rescue mission.
The fire service made efforts to extinguish the fire, while FRSC and LASEMA were on ground to control traffic flow.
