Against all odds, Arsenal defeated Manchester City two nil in the semifinal of Emirates FA Cup. The Gunners just didn’t beat Manchester City, they also got a clean sheet in the process, the first time Arsenal would keep a clean sheet against Manchester City in almost three to four years. Mikel Arteta returned Gabonese striker Aubameyang to the starting lineup after he was on the bench in the midweek victory over Premier League Champions Liverpool. Mustafi and Ceballos also returned to the starting line up while youngter Bukayo Saka, Holding and Torreira all started from the bench. Pep Garddiola also started with his strong team, Kevin De Bruyne returned to the starting line up alongside English winger, Raheem Sterling. Algerian Riyad Mahrez got the nod ahead of Bernado Silva, Spaniard and club Captain David Silva kept his place in the starting lineup. Arsenal were surprisingly ahead earlier in the first half through club top goal scorer Pierre Emerick Aubameyang in the 13th minute. Nicholas Pepe found Aubameyang with a lovely cross, the Gabonese striker finished with a wonderful half volley to send Arsenal fans watching around the world into frenzy.
Arsenal had a rare attack in the second half, Aubameyang was put through on goal from Kieran Tierney’s wonderful pass, the 31 year old Gabonese striker found himself one on one with Manchester City’s goal keeper Ederson, Aubameyang slotted the ball through the legs of Ederson as he doubles Arsenal’s lead in Wembley in the 71st minute. Manchester City huffed and puffed as they seek to at least score a goal in the game but Arsenal’s defense along with the goal keeper Martinez were resilient on the night as they stop all of Manchester City’s assault thrown at them. From a tactical point of view, it was a good day in the office for Arsenal’s young coach Mikel Arteta, the former Pep Guardiola assistant has managed two important victory in the space of a week. First the Arsenal boss mastermind a victory against Premier League Champions Liverpool then he also put in a brilliant tactic to outfox former boss Pep Guardiola and FA Cup ddefending Champions Manchester City. Arsenal owe the praise for the victory to Gabonese striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang. The 31 year old once again proved his worth as his brace on the night helped Arsenal secure a place in 2019/2020 FA Cup final on August 1st.
