Rivers State University (RSU) was formally addressed as Rivers State University of Science and technology (RSUST), before the institution was changed to its present name on the 1st day of April, 2017 by his excellency the executive governor of Rivers State, Chief barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike.
The School got her new name during the convocation of the graduants that same day in April 2017.
Rivers State University is geographically located in Nkpolu Oro- Worukwo Community of the state, the institution shares boundary with Agip and Mile 3 axis of the state.
Yesterday, it was reported that a group of men believed to be the host community in Nkpolu Oro Worukwo interfaced with the Rivers State University for them to have a memorandum of understanding on how to grant employment to the people of the host community.
According to the information gathered, one of the host community member, Mr Emmanuel Omas Wokoma led the CDC executive of Nkpolu Oro- Worukwo in conjunction with some Traditional rulers, elders, chiefs, public office holders and opinion leaders of the community, and paid a courtesy visit to the management of the River State University.
The source reported about the meeting, which was said to be a lengthy one as the host community raised issues as it concerns employment, admission, contracts and community development service.
The community stressed that the need for an existing memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the university and host community can never be overemphasized, as it will help address most of the issues tabled before the management.
The vice- chancellor of the university Prof. Nlerum Sunday Okogbule thanked the community for being one of the most accommodating and peaceful communities and assured that there will be cooperation.
This was signed by Raymond Ogbonda Wechie, the Community development committee (CDC) Media Director, along with Emmanuel Amadi and 14 others.
