The Director General of the Ghana Education Service, Professor Kwasi Opoku Amankwah, has communicated to all Regional and District directors of Education not to stop teachers from taking part in the upcoming Population and Housing Census in Ghana.
In a few days ago, the Ghana Statistical Service released its shortlisted applicants for the enumerators of the 2021 PHC to be held in June. It is a known fact that teachers are the widely preferred people to embark on an exercise such as this. It is therefore not surprising that teachers form about 70 percent of the total number of people to take in the upcoming PHC exercise.
Following this, an information that circulated in the news last week was that, absenteeism rules were to strictly applied and enforced on any teacher who will decide to take part in the PHC. This was meant to prevent teachers from taking part in the exercise.
But in a release from the Director General of GES to Regional and District directors, teachers are an important part of this PHC exercise and therefore should not be stopped from taking part.
