Arsenal have beaten fellow North London rivals Tottenham Hotspurs to the signature of Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu in a deal worth around €23 million Euros.
Tottenham had expressed interest in the defender earlier in the window but the Japanese international will now undergo a medical at the Emirates, while personal terms are not expected to be a formality. Takehiro Tomiyasu's arrival is in line especially with the likely exit of Spanish defender Hector Bellerin.
The Arsenal right-back Bellerin is set to have a medical in Seville ahead of a move to La Liga side Real Betis. Betis have agreed a loan deal with an option to make it permanent. Bellerin’s contract at Arsenal is up in the summer of 2023.
Elsewhere, the Gunners have succeeded in getting Reiss Nelson out of the club, albeit on loan. The Englishman is currently having a medical with Dutch Eredivisie outfit Feyenoord after final agreements were reached on his loan move from Arsenal. The Gunners will first extend his contract until 2023, before he joins Feyenoord.
