South Africa has witnessed a surge in the number of coronavirus cases recorded on a daily basis. On Friday the 6th of May 2022 a total of 9253 new and positive coronavirus cases were recorded. A total of 7 deaths were also recorded.

The positivity rate is currently at 26.6% which is fairly high and can potentially be a cause of concern.

Gauteng, Kwazulu-natal and Western Cape have contributed the highest number of cases. With 3662 cases, 2443 cases and 1308 cases per province respectively.

It is not clear as yet if South Africans should be concerned with the high and increasing number of cases.

There is potential that these number of positive coronavirus cases will increase as winter approaches and as the fifth wave of the coronavirus intensifies.

Individuals are urged to follow all health regulations including wearing their mouth and getting vaccinated if they wish to.
