A former senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Senator Shehu Sani, has criticised the transportation minister, Chibuike Amaechi, and his ministry for increasing train fare by 100 percent. He bared his mind on this issue on his twitter page about an hour ago.The former senator described the price hike as unjust, unfair, souless and insensitive. He sermonized, urging the minister to make things easier for the people while on top of the rock of power, because he will meet with them when he is back to the base of life.
The minister of transportation, Chibuike Amarechi, had announced 100 percent increment in train fare for Abuja to Kano services. Briefing reporters on the 19th of July, the minister said the COVID-19 pandemic was the cause of the increment. The minister said that before the coronavirus lockdown, a coach in a train carried 80 passengers, but that when services resume a coach will carry 40 passengers.
Before the lockdkwn, passengers paid N3000 for first class express and N2500 for first class normal; while N1500 was for economy express and N1300 for economy normal.
