World marathon Ruth Chepngetich took 29 seconds off the world record to win instabul world half marathon after clocking 1:04:02 in Turkish today.

Chepngetich the two times winner 2017 and 2019 broke away from Ethiopian yalemzerf who placed second in 1.04.40

The 26 years smashed the previous record of 1.04.31 in a mixed race gender set by Ethiopian Anabel Ashaneh last year in Ras Al Khaimah half Marathon.

Two times world 5000 champion Hellen Obiri was third in 1:04:51 the fastest debut in half marathon in history.

It is the first time three women have finished inside 65 minutes in one half marathon race. Chepngetich, yehualaw and Obiri were part of an eight woman-pack in early stages passing through 5 kilometres in 15:07. The group included marathon world record holder Brigid kosgei and fellow Kenyan Joan chelimo Nelly.

Brigid koskei started to fade as Joan chelimo did leaving Chepngetich, yehualaw and Obiri out in front. Yehualaw attempted brief stint at the front but at 55 minutes chepngetich started her long drive home.
