Islam: Importances and Benefits of Sunnah

News Hub Creator

Like many religions, Islam required a certain code of conduct for its believers. However, few religious traditions were quite as precise with the requirements as Islam. Much of this is because the earliest Muslims tended to be sure to record as much as they could about the life of the prophet of Islam, Muhammad, and use it as a guide for their own lives.

The examples of the Prophet Muhammad make up the Sunnah, an important source of guidance for not only every Muslim, but also for Islamic law. A very large number of these examples were written down to make them easier to remember in huge collections of books. These collections are known as the Hadith, and it is from these collections of the Sunnah that much of Islamic Law is based.

There are two types of Hadith:

1.The sacred - these are sacred sayings in which Muhammad quotes words from Allah which are not included in the Qur’an.

2. The prophetic - these are wise sayings which the Prophet himself gave.

They do not have the same authority as the Qur’an as they are not direct revelation from Allah, but are inspired sayings.

Importance of Prophet’s Sunnah

For Muslims following the actions of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is the matter of meaningful importance because his Sunnah is the source of great benefits for the followers. Believers are encouraged to act in accordance with the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah. If we follow Sunnah of Muhammad (SAW) we can get many benefits by following Prophet’s Sunnah. Allah says in Quran:

1. “There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent pattern for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day and [who] remembers Allah often.” (Quran 33:21).

2. O you who believe! Obey God and obey the Messenger, and those from among you who are invested with authority; and if you are to dispute among yourselves about anything, refer it to God and the Messenger, if indeed you believe in God and the Last Day. This is the best (for you) and fairest in the end. (an-Nisa, 4:59)

3. If you indeed love God, then follow me, so that God will love you and forgive you your sins." God is All-Forgiving, All-Compassionate (Aal-i Imran, 3:31

Benefits of acting according to Sunnah

There are many virtues and rewards of acting in accordance with the Sunnah. The issues of the Sunnah, and even the smallest manners of the Sunnah inform Muslims how to act in the complicated roads of life and show them the safest and most reliable roads like a compass. The Sunnah makes believers obtain the unfailing and unchanging criteria of value. In short, “The Sunnah of the Prophet is the cornerstone of the happiness in the world and in the hereafter and it is the source of making a person mature.”
