The coming of Jesus is the most anticipated event in Christianity. Many prophets, pastors and persons have in the past tried to prophesy about the coming of Christ. All their predictions and assumptions have proven to be wrong as Christ coming remains delayed.
Jesus himself when asked about his coming said he did not know the exact day or time, but he spoke of the events that will precede His coming.
However, prosperity preacher and evangelical minister, pastor Jesse Duplantis is one of his exhortations on Victory channel, has stated that the reason why Christ has not returned is that people are not donating enough to the church.
The pastor insists that the church's negligence of giving bountifully to God's work has delayed the coming of Christ.
Mr Jesse is the pastor and co-founder of Covenant church in new Orleans, and Founder of Jesse Duplantis ministries
In his words said, " I honestly believe this — the reason why Jesus hasn’t come is that people are not giving the way God told them to give," he said.
He insists that that Christ won't come until his people begin to do well in the financial realm and do what God has asked them to do (give).
Even though it is indisputably true that giving is a necessity and is expected from us as children of God to give bountifully to Him, it is wrong for this pastor to say that Christ hasn't returned the second time because people aren't giving enough. His notion is not based on the holy scriptures but on his own formulated ideology.
Even though Jesus made it clear in the scriptures that only God knows the day when He (Christ) shall come. However, Christ in one of his exhortations revealed the circumstances which will occur before his coming.
Matthew 24:14 "And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come."
This verse shows that Jesus will come when the gospel has been taken to every creature and all nations. So it will be wrong to say that Christians not giving enough to God is the reason why Christ's coming is delayed.
Can we then say that what is truly delaying Christ coming is our reluctance towards the great commission? If we don't preacher the world to all nations, will that delay the end of the world?
One thing that is sure in all our questionings is that God is omniscient, that is He knows the end from the beginning and everything in between, He only can decide when the end of the world. But while we wait as believers, we are to be conscious of the kind of life we live and embrace a life of purity and righteousness, so we will be ready when Christ comes.
