Three women where on Wednesday apprehended and paraded at the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) office in Abuja for attempting to smuggle 818 rounds of live ammunition from Kano State to Bayelsa State.
Police spokesman in Abuja, DSP Frank Mba while confirming the incident said that the suspects were apprehended by Special Tactical Squad unit, adding that the live ammunition was handed over to one of the woman identified as Elena, by her husband, who happens to be a Lance Corporal in the Nigerian army, to smuggle it to Yenagoa from Kano.
The husband of the woman has been arrested by military authorities.
The Police spokesman in his words:
“25 year old Elena's husband who is being detained by the Nigerian military, handed over a half-bag of rice to Favour Bello, 21, for onward transportation to Yenagoa. Bello was expected on arrival to hand same to yet another female Priye Jimmy aged 30.
The half bag of rice contained live ammunition carefully concealed in it, but What they failed to understand was that just as they were planning, operatives in collaboration with other members of the community were also monitoring their activities at the motor park. And eventually when Favour got there and was about to board a vehicle, the bag of rice was searched and the ammunition were found in it.
