The Ministry of Health on Wednesday announced that 834 people tested positive for COVID-19 from a sample size of 8,498 tested in the last 24 hours.
This takes the total confirmed infections to 158,326 and cumulative tests so far conducted are 1,659,506, with the positivity rate at 9.8%.
The second wave of infections has seen at least 300,000 people test positive each day for the past week, overwhelming health facilities and crematoriums and fuelling an increasingly urgent response from allies overseas sending equipment.
Health CS Senator Mutahi Kagwe today visited Mwatate Sub County hospital, in Taita Taveta County, to inspect the level of the hospital facilities, Covid -19 preparedness.
Among the facilities he inspected includes the new Oxygen plant, the Covid-19 holding unit, the new cancer centre and Covid -19 designated vaccination site.
Coast Regional Commissioner John Elungata has urged area residents to strictly observe the Covid protocols to reduce the number of positive cases in the country.
“It is absolutely necessary for Kenyans to follow all the protocols to protect their lives and safeguard public health,” said the Regional Commissioner.
