Emerging details now indicate that Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya might have dumped the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party a long time ago, but chose to be quiet about it.
According to new revelations by Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua, the county boss has been working with Ruto for quite some time now, which has been kept secret from his ODM party.
He says that it is the ODM Deputy Party Leader who approached Ruto to join his Hustler Movement, a request that was granted by the DP's side, after which his talks with Ruto kicked off.
The close Ruto ally claims that Oparanya has been a Ruto ally since 2019, stating that the Hustler Nation camp will continue embracing anybody willing to join and help it achieve its inclusion goal.
“The meetings will continue because we want to build an all-inclusive movement with every Kenyan on board. For Oparanya, we have been meeting him for a long time since 2019,” he told The Star.
His remarks echo earlier ones by Turkana governor Josphat Nanok, who last week claimed that the Ruto-Oparanya talks have been in progress for a whole year.
The governor, another ODM rebel, revealed that contrary to what people are thinking, that the talks are just beginning, they are actually approaching the conclusion stage, and have nothing to do with ODM.
He is among the ODM members who have dumped ODM leader Raila Odinga for Ruto.
After meeting Ruto in Narok on Wednesday last week, Oparanya is said to have again met him at a hotel in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu county on Saturday, with their talks running late into the night.
