The country is still in shock after an explosion occurred yesterday in Appiatse near Bogoso in the Western Region of Ghana. Sources says the total casualties are unknown though many are feared to be dead and much more injured.
Today, Friday, January 21, 2022 the Vice President Dr. Bawumia led a powerful delegation from government to visit the explosion site and also the injured persons. He assured the victims of government’s support and pledged an amount of 200, 000 to them.
Afterwards, the Director General Public Affairs Directorate, ACP Kwasi Fori briefed the press on happenings today. Most importantly, he cleared the air regarding the number of casualties of the explosion. According to him there are lots of misinformation and he needed to clarify matters.
He explained that officially there have been 190 casualties so far according to the Ghana Ambulance Service. Out of that, 13 are certified to be dead instead of the earlier 17 mentioned by the press. He added that 4 were seriously injured and this might have accounted to sources claiming 17 lives had been lost. As of today, 36 are on admission and 96 have been discharged. Displaced persons number 384 according to NADMO.
He explained that for those displaced they are being housed in a parish house in Bogoso and are being talked to so they feel at home. He added that the police are providing security to those displaced and have even gone ahead to protect the properties of the persons who were injured or displaced.
