If you ask most people which animal they think is the strongest, I'm sure the answer you would get the most is "Lion." Well, it's not surprising, seeing that lions symbolize strength and authority and they are tagged "The King of the Jungle."

Well, it's common knowledge that lions are strong hunters in groups, and perhaps nothing can withstand them. But singly, it is believed that a number of animals can stand up to them and even kill them in a fight.

So yes, when they hunt in prides, lions may be the king's of the jungle. But in a one-on-one combat, someone else is likely to take that crown. So if you probably didn't know, here are eleven animals that are believed to be able to kill a lion in a one-on-one battle.

1. Buffalo

The lion, on the other hand, has very sharp teeth and strong jaws but they are no match for the buffalo's powerful horns. The lion can never win against the buffalo. Taking down a fully grown buffalo is a hard task for the lion except with the help of other lions.

2. Elephant

Considering that the African elephant is much bigger and stronger than the African lion, it can easily kill the lion. The lion can only kill through bites, but can't withstand the weight of the elephant's feet on its body. Elephants have known to be dangerous and can easily kill when disturbed.

3. Rhinoceros

If there is a battle between a Rhino and a Lion, the result will be exciting and full of anticipation. The Rhino could charge at the Lion and send it flying into the air. Therefore, the rhino would win the fight. Its most likely that the Rhino knocks the lion out with its large horns.

4. Crocodile

The Crocodile wins in the water where it can attack as well as move faster. Alternatively, the lion wins on land where it can dodge the crocodile's attacks. While better armored than the bear, the crocodile has only one weapon: its jaws.

5. Hippopotamus

You might be wondering who would win in a fight between a hippo and a lion? In most cases, the hippo still wins. The exception may be if a pride of lions attacks a single hippo. Even then, the hippo is significantly larger, capable of moving swiftly on land or in water, and has large teeth to defend itself

6. Giraffe

If a lion and a giraffe fight, who would win? A lion and a giraffe are no match for a fight. A lion can never beat a giraffe due to its colossal size and height. ... When hunting adult giraffes, lions try to knock the lanky animal off its feet and pull it down.

7. Grizzly Bear

Considering the unavoidable size differences between the two, the bear should be hot favourite to win any battle with a lion. The average grizzly bear can easily tip the scales at 300 kg (660 lbs), making it well over a third heavier than a large lion at 180 kg (400 lbs).

8. Tiger

If there's a fight, the tiger will win, every time. Lions hunt in prides, so it would be in a group and the tiger as a solitary creature so it would be on its own. A tiger is generally physically larger than a lion. Most experts would favor a Siberian and Bengal tiger over an African lion.

9. Bison

They've killed more formidable prey than bison many times. But odds are that the bison will toss the lion with its horns or kick it aside, or make it flee while trying to trample it.

10. Polar Bear

African lion 250 to 580 pounds. There are exceptions: a lion named Brutus killed a polar bear. Other than that lions only advantage is agility. So polar bear wins 9/10.

11. Spanish Fighting Bull

They weigh 1,100 to 1,600 pounds and they're more aggressive than any other cattle breed. A lion, tiger, grizzly bear, leopard, hyena and even dog packs couldn't beat the Spanish fighting bulls.

By watching wildlife channels on TV, you may understand better why these animals are more powerful than lions when it comes to individual combat.
