Uterine Fibroids may at times resemble pregnancy. It is usually a benign tumor or growth that is usually found in the uterus or the womb of a woman during her active child carrying years.

Uterine Fibroids usually develop with time over years and can grow to large sizes making the woman to think she is pregnant. They are usually of different types.

1. Intramural fibroids.

From the name, they develop within the muscular wall of the uterus and are usually the most common.

2. Subserosal Fibroids.

From the name , they develop form outside the uterus, making the uterus enlarge one sided.

3. Submucosal fibroids

They develop in the myometrium of the uterus and are usually very painful.

The cause is usually not well known however, it has been established that estrogen and progesterone hormones may actually trigger the growth of these tumors. So a family history of firoids and pregnancy may actually predispose a woman to these condition.

Some of the common symptoms associated with this condition include:

1. Heavy bleeding during menstruation

2. Lower back pain

3. Frequent urination

4. Pain in the lower limbs

5. Constipation

6. Painful menstruation

The fibroids usually grow into massive sizes just like the fetus in the uterus and are usually painful although during the early stages, they maybe too small to notice. At times there are usually more than one fibroid.

Treatment is usually through surgical removal of the fibroids.

Therefore any woman who experience these symptoms should see a doctor so that it can be diagnosed and managed early. Not all fibroids usually turn into cancerous tumor. Infact the chances of a fibroid becoming malignant are very low but they can actually develop in some cases. Therefore, never ignore these symptoms.
