Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate and former Governor of Abia state, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu on Thursday met with former military President, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, at his Hill Top mansion in Minna, Niger state.
The duo, had a close door meeting which lasted for hours, as they discuss current national issues affecting the country.
No communique was issued after the visit as the Lawmaker departed for the home of another former Nigerian ruler, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, who leaves next door to IBB.
As you know, Kalu is like a son to General Babangida, and has enjoyed a lot of political patronage from the former military ruler during his time in office and after retirement. So his visit was no surprise, as political analysts point out the sudden meeting my be connected to plans to force the two main political parties in Nigeria to field an Igbo man as their presidential candidate in 2023.
Recall that, politicians form the South-Eastern part of Nigeria have been clamouring for their zone to produce the next president of Nigeria. They told the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, and the Peoples' Democratic Party, PDP, to either field their kinsmen or lose their block vote in the coming elections.
