Alcohol also interferes with the body's ability to regulate fluid and electrolytes. When alcohol dehydrates the body, it might affect the healthy functioning of the cells (dries it out).

3. Protein from animals.

Limit your consumption of animal protein; eating too much of it, such as red meat, poultry, eggs, and seafood, boosts uric acid levels, which can lead to kidney stones. Urinary citrate levels, a chemical in urine that helps prevent stone formation, are reduced by a high-protein diet.


Drinking enough of water on a daily basis is the easiest way to avoid most kidney stones. Every day, the average person should drink eight to twelve glasses of fluid. If you have kidney illness and need to reduce your fluid consumption, ask your doctor how much fluid you should drink each day.

Limiting sodium and animal protein (meat, eggs) in your diet can help you avoid kidney stones. Your doctor may be able to give specific dietary recommendations to help you avoid future kidney stones if the makeup of your stone can be determined.
