The Lagos State Task Force on COVID-19 on Wednesday stormed a surprise party and arrested 60 fun seeking guests for violating the lock down orders and not complying with the social distancing pronouncement of the State.

A statement signed by Chief Public Affairs Officer of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA); Mrs. Bola Ajao revealed that what was tagged a surprise party which was held at 84 Parks and Gardens, Idi Oparun bus stop opposite Abattoir at Abule Egba, area of Lagos had in attendance as at the time of the enforcement over fifty-six (56) youths who collaborated to have a party in defiance of the directive of the President on lock down.

The Joint Task Force made up of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), Lagos State Safety Commission, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), and Lagos State Task Force according to the team leader, LASEPA’s Director Enforcement and Monitoring; Mr. Kayode Bello stormed the party after receiving a tip off from a concerned resident of the state of an ongoing birthday party.

Reacting to the seal off, the GM LASEPA, Mrs. Dolapo Fasawe reiterated that it was no longer business as usual in the state as the state government was ready to enforce all existing guidelines to ensure that the spread of COVID-19 is contained.

She added that taking into consideration the urgent need to flatten the curve of the spread of the virus so that everybody can make a speedy return to normalcy, it shouldn't be difficult for residents to obey simple instruction and adhere strictly to safety precautions.

The statement further confirmed that the facility has immediately been sealed off while the youths were taken away by the police for further investigation and profiling. 

It appealed to parents and guardians to seriously warn their wards to stay away from unlawful gatherings as all hands are on deck to ensure that there is no hiding place for flagrant violators.

The statement further revealed that acting on another tip-off by concerned residents, the Lagos State COVID-19 Task Force sealed off a night club using a pharmacy store to cover up at VGC on Monday.

On his own part, The Director-General, Lagos State Safety Commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola expressed shock that despite the enlightenment and advocacy of the state on social distancing and staying at home, some people still devised means to gather and merry when lives are being lost across the globe.

He further warned facility owners not to allow their places to be used in perpetrating evil by allowing their customers to gather at their business premises for unlawful means under the pretense of social gatherings.

The duo maintained that the state would not hesitate to apply the relevant provisions of the law on event facility owners who defy government orders and cut corners without consideration for the implication on the entire populace all because of financial gain.
