Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister for Education, has indicated that students who obtained grade D7 in WASSCE are not failures as many people perceive it to be. The Minister believes there is a need for a national discussion on grade cutoffs for tertiary institutions.
The Minister, speaking at the inauguration and swearing-in of Governing — Councils of some selected public universities yesterday, he charged public universities to admit students with grade D7 into their respectable institutions by innovating and creating access programmes for them.
The Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe Constituency in the Ashanti also disclosed that Ghana's gross enrollment ratio is 18.8%, as against South Korea's 73.6% and Mauritius' 40%. According to him, no nation has been able to develop nor transform without attaining 40% or 50% tertiary enrollment.
Students who are currently writing the WASSCE 2021 are happy after the Minister entreated public universities in the country to admit students with grade D7.
