A senior member of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Lawyer Tsatsu Tsikata has descended heavily on president Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo.
The seasoned legal practitioner was speaking about the recent burning of excavators by the Akufo-Addo led NPP government. The government has decided to set excavators on fire anytime they are seen on or near any galamsey site. Although many people have praised the government for taking this bold decision, others have condemned this act, fearing that it may land the state in a tight corner if owners of these equipments decide to seek redress in court.
Latest to add a voice to this matter is a senior member of the opposition NDC, Tsatsu Tsikata. The legal practitioner described this decision by the government as "nonsense". He says it is illegal for the government to destroy mining equipments when it's owners have not been proven guilty in court.
“That is nonsense. That is nonsense because you don’t fight illegality with illegality. You don’t presume people guilty before you go through any process. There is no provision in any law of this country that allows government to do that,“ Tsatsu Tsikata stated.
