The Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry is a panel which was set up in the wake of the "EndSARS" protests inorder to give a listening hear to the victims of police brutality and render appropriate assistance. This panel has just compensated two individuals who incurred huge losses as a result of police brutality with the sum of N10 million each.

The stories of each one of the compensated individuals are quite saddening and echoes the ordeals many have faced due to police brutality in the country. One of the people compensated, Adebayo Abayomi related how he lost his mom, Kudirat Abayomi on April 4, 2017.

She was going about her business doing what she normally does, that is, frying bean cake and selling them at the roadside when she was hit and killed by stray bullets fired by the Nigerian police. Mr. Abayomi further related how he found his mother laying on the mortuary floor despite the D.P.O's promise to embalm her and how he and the family heard nothing about the investigation the then CP, Fatai Owoseni promised to carry out.

Apart from Mr. Abayomi who was compensated with N10 million years after losing his mother to the cold hands of police brutality, Mrs. Hannah Olugbodi was another petitioner who compensated after she related her ordeal.

The mother of two had her left leg shattered by stray bullets from the firearms of SARS operatives who were trying to clamp down on a suspected fraudster. She related that she and her husband were not able to afford surgery. She has also been compensated with N10 million.

This two incurred really huge losses due to the excesses of security operatives in the country. Despite the fact that they have been received financial help to lighten some weight off their shoulders, the police hierarchy should put in more efforts to curb the excesses in their ranks.
