FITA has Lost it's Case to have Cigarettes ban lifted. The case was dismissed by high court on friday 26 June 2020 confirmed by FITA chairperson Sinenhlanhla Mguni.
"The fact that a substance is addictive does not render it essential. We therefore find no basis on which to interpret the level five regulation as permitting the sale of tobacco products reads the judgement".
Smokers have been dealt heavy blow.
Meanwhile (BATSA) British American Tobacco South Africa on Friday 26 June confimed that it has began talking orders from customer to facilitate the resumption of supply over the cigarette ban if lifted.
however they are not selling cigarettes,no dilivery will be made until sale of tobacco product is permitted.
BATSA said what they are doing is not based on any new information as to when cigarettes ban may be lifted,but simply to be in the best position to resume in future.
A separate legal battle between Government and British American Tobacco South Africa was moved to August.
Some wine company also did the same thing,by talking orders before the alcohol ban was lifted to prepare themselves for the resumption.
Minister Nkosazana Zuma who has opposed the unbanning of Cigarettes product,has received heavy critisism from oppponents of the embago.
