Lai Mohammed opens Kwara APC factional office, says battle line drawn with governor

The All Progressives Congress will soon organise a fresh registration/revalidation of members in Kwara State, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said.

Mohammed, who spoke at the unveiling/launch of a parallel secretariat of the APC in Ilorin, the state capital, on Saturday, said the recently concluded registration exercise conducted for members in the state was not genuine in that it did not capture every member of the party.

Sunday PUNCH reports that the state government and a faction of the APC led by the minister had held a parallel rally to mark the two-year celebration of the party in power in the state.

Osinbajo, govs, others storm Kano as Bayero is crowned emir

President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osibanjo on Saturday congratulated the newly-turbaned Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero.

Buhari expressed confidence in the ability of the newly-turbaned emir to surpass the distinguished records of his late father and former emir, Alhaji Ado Bayero.

Osinbajo, also at the ceremony, conveyed President Buhari’s warm felicitations and personal good wishes to the state government and people of Kano.

He described the coronation as ‘historic’, noting that Kano is revered as a major commercial and economic centre in sub-Saharan Africa.

In a letter delivered to the new emir by the Chief of Staff to the President, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari, who is also an uncle to the emir, the President also extolled the virtues of the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, describing him as a man of remarkable culture and principles, who staked his own life at several junctures in the defence of his people.

Shootings of teenage trader by police premeditated –Falana

Human rights lawyer, Mr Femi Falana (SAN), on Saturday, described the reported killing of a teenage trader by bullets reportedly fired by a security agent dispersing Yoruba Nation demonstrators in the Ojota area of Lagos as a case of premeditated credit: Punch

Falana also called on the Lagos State Government to conduct a coroner’s inquest into the murder of the girl.

He told Sunday PUNCH that while the police violated Section 83 (4) of the Police Establishment Act 2020 which borders on the provision of adequate security by the security agency for citizens on peaceful rallies and protests, the denial by the Lagos State Police Command was a ploy to shield the killer from prosecution.
