It was tragedy a few days ago in Igangan, Ibarapa North Local Government Area of Oyo state when fifteen persons were killed by men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen. Reacting to the sad incident, the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde has taken responsibility for failing to protect the people from such attack. The Governor stated this during a visit to the site of the massacre and lamented the level of insecurity in the State and South-West region.
Commenting on reasons the Amotekun Corps could not defend the people, the Governor revealed that the 'dane' guns used by Amotekun Corps are no match for the sophisticated weapons used by the assailants suspected to be Fulani herdsmen. To prevent future attacks on the South-West region, the Governor suggested Federal Government’s approval to equip the Amotekun Corps with AK – 47 guns. According to the Governor, if the approval is granted, the security situation in the State will improve.
