The Mankessim in the Central Regional branch of the Ghana Bread Bakers Association has passionately appealed to the government to come to their by way of finding avenue to reduce the prices of goods that they use to produce breed.

Briefing journalists about the challenges confronting them in their businesses of late, the spokesperson of the Association, Madam Agnes Koomson disclosed that prices of ingredients used to produce bread have allegedly been increased to almost one hundred percent thereby making them to operate at loss.

Agnes attributed parts of the Association's challenges to the recent increases in fuel prices insisting that the suppliers who supply them with the materials they used to produce bread link their problems to the current prices of the fuel.

We also experience high cost of transport fares when we decide to travel to Accra, Cape Coast, Winneba or Sekondi-Takoradi to buy the commodities to produce our bread, the spokeswoman relalated.

Madam Agnes continued that sugar, nut meg, flour, margarine among other products used to produce bread have been increased to such an extent that bakers make no profit at the end of the day.

The Association hinted that government was formerly supplying the bakers with bread ingredients like flour, sugar and others, but the offer has been curtailed, hence we are appealing to the government to restore the offer to enable us remain in business, Agnes told journalists.
