Despite years of debate, there has been no consensus on the answer to the age-old question of who came fourth in regards to the minority ethnic groups in Nigeria.

The top three have been settled with Hausa, Igbo, and Yoruba topping the list. These are the three major ethnic groups in Nigeria. The Fulanis are said to be intertwined with the Hausas which is why they are not considered the 4th largest ethnic group.

However, the minority groups give a headache to say who outnumber others. The Ijaws, Ibibios, Tivs are the major contenders. Going by the states they are found, Ibibio occupies one state and partly another (Cross River State). The Tivs are two-thirds of Benue with also a little population in Nasarawa. The Ijaws predominate Bayelsa with a little population scattered among other coastal states.

Now the age-long question of who came fourth. The Ibibios are placed ahead of others. According to a survey on the Wikipedia page, they constitute 2.2% of Nigeria giving them the edge to be the fourth ethnic group in
