The intention of the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami to declare a State of Emergency in Anambra State over the rising spates of killings and violence ahead of the November 6 General elections generated a lot of mixed reactions on social media. Many people said that Malami is threatening the Anambra State government and also indirectly implying that Gov. Obiano cannot protect his state as chief security of the state. But out of anger, Gov. Obiano visited President Buhari to know why one of his cabinet members would declare a state of emergency in Anambra State, the president refuted the claim and said he was not aware.
However, the minister of Information, Lai Mohammed has come out to back Malami's decision on declaring a state of emergency in Anambra State. According to a report on Naija News, Lai Mohammed said IPOB has succeeded in destabilizing economic activities in the state and stopped children from going to school because of their sit-at-home order. People are being killed and kidnapped due to the sit-at-home order when you fail to obey.
Lai Mohammed went ahead to say that Anambra's situation cannot be compared to the killings in the North because while the IPOB members want to leave the country, the bandits are just criminals who want to remain in the country. He said those criticizing Malami should have thought of what will happen in Anambra State in the forthcoming election? If nothing is done on the security situation of Anambra state it might blow things out of proportion for the voters and candidates of the governorship election.
