The Oil In The North Can Address Poverty And Unemployment In Nigeria - Sultan

The Sultan of Sokoto has affirmed that the oil in northern Nigeria Is enough to solve the problem of poverty and unemployment rate in the country.

Due to the move by the National Assembly to pass the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) into law, the northern House of Representatives is engaging northern leaders to take a position on the bill.

A two-day retreat on the bill by the northern caucus had been convened, with Sultan of Sokoto, Sa'ad Abubakar, the Chairman of Arewa Conservative Forum, Audu Ogbeh, the Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Mohammed Bello in attendance at the Zuma Resort in Niger State.

The major agenda of the meeting was the issue of oil exploration in the north. The Sultan used the opportunity to call for more oil exploration in the north. Speaking further, he revealed that the quantity of oil deposits in the north is enough to handle poverty and unemployment in the country.

The Sultan declared that Nigeria is sitting on billions of barrels of hydrocarbon from Sokoto Basin to Chad Basin, from Gongola to Bida and Benue Trough Basins unexplored and we are talking about poverty, unemployment, and insecurity.

He insists on a Petroleum Industry Bill that will attract foreign investors who will develop the resources with their funds. He also insists on a PIB that will encourage massive exploration of hydrocarbons in the aforementioned basins.

Speaking in the retreat, Audu Ogbeh urged the lawmakers to make sure that they did not leave the office broke. He asks them to save and invest in industrialization.
