It's time to unwind with friends and family, or simply by yourself, as many people will be taking time off work for the holiday season. Many people will also be taking a drink or two to wind down after a long day.
Many individuals enjoy their alcoholic beverages, as was made obvious by the Covid-19 lockout limits that were imposed.
The fact is that many people will be binge-drinking throughout the holidays and New Year's Eve, and if you drink, you are familiar with the resulting hangover.
In an interview with The Sun, cooper, a medical journalist from the United Kingdom, shared her advice on how to cure a hangover.
When it comes to typical hangover symptoms, dehydration, gastric discomfort, and low blood sugar levels are the primary causes. "Dehydration is the most common cause of dry mouth and headache, whereas stomach discomfort is the most common cause of nausea and pain," she told the publication.
"There is no such thing as a hangover cure — there is simply alleviation for specific symptoms," she continued.
According to Dr Cooper, the following are five methods that may be effective in alleviating a hangover:
1. Drink plenty of water.
When ingesting alcoholic beverages, make sure to drink enough of water as well. Dr Cooper recommends that you consume the water even before the symptoms manifest themselves. So make sure you get some liquids in you before going to bed.
2. Use analgesics to relieve pain
Make sure you have some pain relievers on hand in case you need them. "There is evidence to suggest that alcohol can also promote inflammation inside the brain." So, if your stomach is up to it, consider taking anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen."
Don't forget to have something to eat while you're taking your ibuprofen.
3. Consume carbohydrates on a regular basis.
A carbohydrate-based snack helps to raise blood sugar levels in the short term. If you eat fried food, you should exercise caution because it is too fatty for a sensitive stomach and can cause heartburn to occur.
4. Enjoy a bowl of soup.
"A thin vegetable (or beef) broth can help replenish vitamins and minerals that have been lost."
Drinking it feels good on the stomach and is soothing to the soul."
5. Take some time to rest.
Many families look forward to Christmas as a special occasion. Even if you have exciting plans for Boxing Day, staying in bed to avoid a headache is always a good idea to keep your head from pounding.
