The Ghana National senior soccer team, on Sunday, 14 November 2021 defeated the Bafana Bafana team of South Africa, in their last group game of the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

The Ghana team won 1-0 through a controversial penalty, which occurred, when Ghana’s Daniel Amartey went down in the South Africa box, after contact from the South African defender, Rushine de Reuck.

The penalty was scored by Dede Ayew, the captain of the team, causing the Black Stars of Ghana to advance to the next stage of the world cup qualifiers.

The South African Side, who were not satisfied with the penalty awarded to the Black Stars, are demanding for a replay of the game.

The team has revealed that, it will make a “formal complaint” and seek a replay after “questionable decisions” in their 1-0 loss to Ghana on Sunday.

According to the Chief Executive of the South African Football Association (SAFA) Tebogo Mothlante, “The match officials have decided the game, which is not what is supposed to happen.“We will be writing to both CAF [the Confederation of African Football] and [world governing body] FIFA — firstly to investigate how the game was handled, and secondly to challenge some of these decisions”.

Mr. Mothlante added that, “We have already registered with the match commissioner that we will be making a formal complaint. We are very disheartened by their actions and we can't let it destroy the players …when we have the chance to challenge, we will challenge”.

The Bafana Bafana team of South Africa feels that, they have been robbed in the game, because according to them “it is not an isolated incident of a penalty. There are just a lot of questionable decisions by match officials and we will get an expert to dissect other incidents, so we can make a strong case.”

In your views; is there any hope for the South African, for a match replay?
