Five suspects were apprehended and detained by the Harrismith highway patrol on the N3 highway in the northbound direction of Johannesburg after they were discovered in possession of stolen tower batteries, according to the patrol.
On January 14, 2022, at approximately 8:20 a.m. on the N3 highway on its northbound journey towards Johannesburg, the Harrismith highway patrol spotted a suspicious Nissan bakkie traveling on the northbound journey towards Johannesburg. The bakkie was stopped and searched, and nine tower batteries were discovered during the search.
Immediately after their arrest, the two suspects in the bakkie provided police with information about other suspects who were also in possession of stolen tower batteries. Police followed up on the information and drove an additional 30 kilometers to Warden, where they apprehended three more suspects and discovered three additional tower batteries in a black Toyota Yaris.
The five suspects, who are between the ages of 30 and 40, will appear in Harrismith Magistrate court on Monday, January 17, 2022, to face allegations of being in possession of stolen property, according to the court's website.
