Opinion : Why Gov. Kayode Fayemi Should Be Considered By The APC To Succeed Buhari In 2023

The All Progressive Congress (APC) is making effort to ensure that they emerge victorious in the 2023 presidential election. Preparations are ongoing to ensure that they retain power in 2023 after the expiration of President Mohammadu Buhari's tenure.

The All Progressive Congress is also making consultations with strong members of the opposition party, People's Democratic Party to ensure that they have more powerful members ahead of the presidential election in 2023.

Recently, Cross Rivers state Governor defected from the People's Democratic Party to the All Progressive Congress. Some days ago, he said that more Governors will soon join the ruling party. He stated this when he visited President Mohammadu Buhari in Aso Rock.

It is likely that the ruling APC will zone the presidency to the South because the incumbent President, Mohammadu Buhari is from the Northern region.

In the APC, some strong members in the party are rumoured to be interested in contesting the presidential primary election, this includes former Lagos state Governor and National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state and the incumbent Governor of Ekiti state, Dr. Kayode John Fayemi.

Among the three main political gladiators alleged to be interested in succeeding president Mohammadu Buhari in 2023, I believe the Governor of Ekiti state, Kayode Fayemi is the most capable and vibrant to take over from the incumbent President.

Governor Kayode Fayemi who has been endorsed by the Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressive Congress to run for the office of the president in the 2023 election is one of the most performing Governor in Nigeria.

As the Chairman of Nigeria Governor's Forum, Governor Kayode Fayemi has indeed reposition the forum as they now proffer solutions to the problems facing the country. Governor Kayode Fayemi and other executives of the forum have in recent time met with the President to discuss the challenges facing the country.

Apart from being a development expert, Kayode Fayemi who hails from Isan Ekiti in Ekiti state is well respected within and outside the country for his intellectual prowess and ability to separate politics from governance. He will surely bring his expertise in governance to play if he can get the APC ticket and eventually win the presidential election in 2023.

His performance as Minister of Steel and Mineral Resources during the first term administration of President Mohammadu Buhari was outstanding. It was during his tenure that the sector contributed more Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) to the treasury.

The APC should consider the Governor of Ekiti state as their flagbearer because of the sacrifices he has made for the party. Kayode Fayemi was the chairman of the National Convention Planning Committee that conducted the credible Presidential Primary election in 2014 that ushered in President Mohammadu Buhari who eventually won the presidential poll.

What do you have to say about Governor Kayode Fayemi's rumoured presidential ambition?
