Athlete Breaks World Record And Loses First Position Award In Tokyo Olympics

The U.S. relay team led by Katie Ledecky smashed the world record in the 4x200-meter freestyle but lost.

The race was expected to be a battle between the favorites, the Australians, and the Americans, which it was, to some extent. Both beat Australia's world record of 7:41.50 set in 2019.

China, on the other hand, outperformed the two superpowers in a surprise upset. The Australians took the lead on the second leg after the Chinese took the lead at the start.

For the majority of the race, the Americans were locked in a third-place duel with Canada. China and Australia appeared to be locked in a two-team gold medal fight by the third leg.

It was a world-record effort for the American quartet of Ledecky, Allison Schmitt, Paige Madden, and Katie McLaughlin, who took silver.

Indeed must have been a tough competition with China taking the lead over USA athletes. What are your thoughts on this? Let us know in the comment section
