Fresh Details Emerge as Police Claim That People Trapped in Collapsed Building In Ruiru Were Thieves

On Wednesday morning, an unknown number of people were trapped inside the rubble of a building that collapsed in Ruiru, Kiambu County.

Reports indicated that part of the building had been demolished by the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) to pave the way for the Eastern Bypass.

First responders from the Kiambu Fire Department reported to the scene of the accident and mounted rescue operations.

Eyewitnesses say those trapped had gone into the condemned building to collect scrap metal.

It has now been revealed that the people apped were “thieves”

Kiambu County Commissioner revealed that the yet to be identified persons were looking for metals inside the half-demolished building to sell.

Police officers barricaded the site to keep the area off the public.

So far three people have been confirmed dead.

The state-approved the demolitions in a bid to ease traffic on the key road linking Mombasa Road to Thika Superhighway.
