He was the first Prime Minister and President of Ghana, having led the Gold Coast to independence from Britain in 1957. An influential advocate of Pan-Africanism, Dr Kwame Nkrumah was a founding member of the Organization of African Unity and winner of the Lenin Peace Prize from the Soviet Union in 1962.
Dr Kwame Nkrumah's wife, Fathia Nkrumah, was living in her home country Egypt with their three children after the coup that expelled them from Ghana.
Dr Kwame Nkrumah and Fathia Nkrumah gave birth to three children namely:
1.Gamal Gorkeh Nkrumah (born 1959) is a Ghanaian journalist, a Pan-Africanist and an editor of Al Ahram Weekly newspaper. He is the eldest son of the first president of Ghana, Kwame Nkrumah
2. Samia Yaba Christina Nkrumah is a Ghanaian politician and chairperson of the Convention People's Party. In the 2008 parliamentary election, she won the Jomoro constituency seat at her first attempt. She is the daughter of Kwame Nkrumah, first President of Ghana
2.Dr Sekou Nkrumah was born to Dr Kwame Nkrumah and Fathia Nkrumah. He is the last child of Kwame Nkrumah. He was named after Sekou Toure, President of Guinea and a very good friend of Kwame Nkrumah. Dr Sekou Nkrumah born 1 December 1963 is a Ghanaian politician and last son of Ghana's first President Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
