Meet Sen. Basheer Garba Mohammed, The Newly Appointed DG, National Agency For Trafficking In Person

Basheer Garba Mohammed was born October 16, 1966, in Nasarawa local government area of Kano State, Nigeria. He received a bachelor's degree in political science from Bayero University, Kano. Basheer Garba Mohammed is a businessman, politician and also a property and trading expert. He founded the Ladon Alheri Foundation, a charity that funds projects including schools, water boreholes and eye surgery.

During the 2011 general elections for the Kano Central Senatorial Seat, Basheer won the seat with a total of 359, 059 votes ahead of Aminu Abba Ibrahim of the then ANPP and Alhaji Bello Isa Bayero of the then CPC. He was defeated during the 2015 general elections by Dr Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of All Progressive Congress (APC) with over 500,000 votes.

Recently, President Muhammadu Buhari appointed Senator Basheer Garba Mohammed as the Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP). He assumed office as the new Director-General of the agency on Friday, 18th June 2021 in Abuja. In a press released by the NAPTIP spokesperson, Stella Nezan in Abuja, where the DG stated that the new boss of the agency promised to build on the existing operational platform to ensure national and international visibility for the agency.
