Buckingham Palace has served as Queen Elizabeth main royal residence since Queen Victoria decided to renovate the previously vacant property in 1837.
Like the White House in Washington, it acts as the administrative headquarters for the nations' leaders, but Buckingham Palace is over 15 times bigger than the White House. In total, it spread across 829,000 square feet compared to 55,000 at the White House, and features 775 rooms while the White House has 132.
Nonetheless, both properties features similar state rooms, while the former Queen extended Buckingham Palace to add further iconic touches, including the famous balcony at the front of the palace where the royal family often gather for Trooping the Colour and to celebrate occasions such as Christmas and royal weddings.
