According to newsmen this evening, being Friday, February 19, 2021. It was revealed that Lagos State Judicial Panel of Restitution and Inquiry investigating cases of police brutality have awarded N10 million each as compensation to two victims of police brutality.
The cheque was presented by Doris Okuwobi, Chairperson of the panel on behalf of Lagos state government. The two petitions involved in the matter are two women, one Kudirat Abayomi and Hannah Olugbodi.
The son of the victim, Kudirat Abayomi revealed to the panel that her mother was killed by stray bullet in 2017 by SARS officers who visited Onipanu area of Lagos, and after the hit, her body was abandoned on the bare floor of a mortuary.
Meanwhile, the second victim, Hannah Olugbodi revealed to the panel in November 2020 that she was shot by stray bullet by the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) who raided a hotel and started shooting sporadically.
It was gathered that the incident occurred in June 2018 which made her to end up on a crutch after her left leg was affected by the bullet.
