Benue Council Chairman Receives An Abandoned Child from Police

An abandoned male child was Wednesday 30/6/2021 received by Gwer local government council Chairman, Hon Emmanuel Ortserga from the hands of the officers of the Nigeria police headquarters, Aliade and handed over to the social welfare unit of the council headed by Mr Emmanuel Atoba for proper care.


According to the police officials, the abandoned child was recovered on the 28/6/2021 in the swampy area surrounded with bush around Austoma village, Aliade at about 10:00am by a good Samaritan who heard the ceaseless cry of a child in the area and rushed to the scene and discovered him dumped after few days of birth.


The police officers informed the Council Chairman that immediately the child was brought to them, they quickly rushed him to the General Hospital, Aliade for medicals with the assistance of Great Masev Brothers and Sisters (GMBS) led by Mr Theophilus Tingir who provided all the hospital needs for the surviver of the child.


Receiving the abandoned child from Aliade police officers, Gwer local government council Chairman, Hon Emmanuel Ortserga represented by his deputy, Hon Austine Nemba praised God for sparring the life of the child whom he described as the leader of tommorow.


He charged parents to always monitor behaviors and movements of their children both male and female to avoid been involved in such barbaric acts that portrays the society in bad light.


Hon Ortserga who promised to refer the matter to the state ministry of women affairs and social development, Makurdi next week, acknowledged the immense support of GMBS for the upkeep of the motherless and fatherless child and urged them to sustain their humanitarian gestures for the over all development of Gwer local government area.


Equally, the Gwer council Chairman expressed appreciation to Mrs Christiana Kyausu, a Nurse at the Aliade General Hospital for taking proper care, providing clothing, toiletries and baby foods for the child while on administration at the hospital and accepting to keep the child under her care till Monday. He encouraged her to sustain the spirit.
