The 2023 presidential election has raised a lot of misunderstandings between different regions and political groups within the country. The two major political parties in Nigeria (APC & PDP) have not selected their presidential candidates but different regions have started to battle for the presidential position.

However, the Northern Governors forum rejected the decision of Southern Governors to zone 2023 presidency to the southern region. Hakeem Ahmed-Baba (Spokesman of Northern Elders forum) disclosed that the Northern region has the numerical capacity to influence the next presidential election in the country.

Recently, Atiku Abubakar (Former Vice President of Nigeria) disclosed that Nigerians are not bothered about the region that will produce the next President in Nigeria. He stated that Nigerians want a leader that will address the challenges facing the nation.

Atiku Abubakar made this statement in his brief remarks at the 94th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of PDP in Abuja.

Nevertheless, a lot of people are curious to know if Southern leaders will accept Abubakar Atiku's comment about the zoning of 2023 presidency.
I believe that Southern leaders should accept Atiku's comment because Nigeria needs a competent president despite the person's region, tribe or religion. This is because if Nigerians fail to elect a competent president because of zoning, the economy and security of the nation will be negatively affected.
Instead of fighting for the 2023 presidency, I believe that political parties and regions in Nigeria should ensure that they effectively screen their presidential candidates to select a competent and qualified presidential candidate.
